At the end of the day, there is always something that we wish we would have done. We beat ourselves up for what we chose to do. Habits play a huge role in the reason for this.
We do what we do, most of the time, out of comfort. It's what we have always done and so we continue and then wonder why our lives are at a standstill. Question why we aren't getting further ahead than we are.
Today I want to share with you 11 habits that YOU need to add into your daily life. Will it be easy? Of course not. But with practice then these 11 habits will be second nature and you will begin to see a change in the momentum of your life.
DAILY HABITS THAT YOU NEED TO DO
#1. Make time for self-care. Seriously, if you don't already do this, YOU NEED TO. I don't want to hear that you don't have time. Even if it is 10 minutes, get that self-care in. Schedule it in and make it a priority. You deserve to take care of you.
#2. Pack your lunch. This one I am currently working on. I always made sure that my children had a healthy lunch to take with them to school and then would walk out the door with nothing for myself. That meant that I chose bad options if I was on a break at work. I am now trying really hard to make myself a lunch every day. It's even better if you can take leftovers from the night before. No more trying to prep a lunch in the morning.
#3. Meditate. There are so many reasons why you should meditate. Here is a list of reasons to meditate. In July I am doing 30 minutes for 30 days of meditation challenge to up my meditation game. I have been consistently doing meditation before bedtime for 15 minutes for a while and decided it was time to do more. I will be writing a future blog post at the end of my 30 days. Watch my IG stories here to follow along.
#4. Practice gratitude. Go and buy yourself a pretty little journal. It doesn't have to be fancy. Keep it next to your bed and every night after you meditate, write at least 5 things you are grateful for that day. Do it every night. There will be bad days that you think there is nothing to be thankful for. (Believe me, I've had those days.) But after you sit down and truly think about how your day went, you will begin to write.
#5. Drink more water. I am going to admit to all of you that I am a soda lover. Dr. Pepper is my go-to drink. I am trying to add more water in my everyday life so I have left a water bottle in the fridge at work and I have a water bottle in my fridge at home. Every time I open either fridge, I take 5 sips of water. Why 5 sips? I had an amazing friend, Chemaine Linnie, tell me that is one way to get more water in. It has made a big difference. Follow her here and learn all her awesome tricks!!!
#6. Journal. Just like keeping a gratitude list, journaling helps get everything out of your head. You don't need a journal to have words. Keep an art journal. Keep a bullet journal. Keep a journal where you doodle. It doesn't matter how you journal. Have fun. Create something that you will enjoy doing and will stick with. This may take you a bit of play but you will figure it out.
#7. Eat more veggies. Just like your mom used to tell you and now what I tell my kids every day. Have them prepped and ready to go in the fridge so it is easy.
#8. Walk for 20 minutes. What I love about Airdrie is that it is full of walking paths. I can pick different locations to walk in and every day I am somewhere different. Set your alarm and get out in nature for 20 minutes. The fresh air will work wonders for your mind and body.
#9. Shut down technology at 9 pm. I don't always do this because night time is when I get the most work done on my business. But I do shut off at 10 pm at the latest. I even took the tv out of our bedroom once I read that it decreases your sex life. Who knew??
#10. Read. I always always always make time for reading. Even if I fit in just 15 minutes, it is a form of self-care for me. I bring my book with me in my purse and have it wherever I go. I know you have a book list somewhere that you have been waiting to read. Start now. And if you are looking for a great book to read, check out the blog post from Tuesday where I wrote a book review here.
#11. Eat breakfast. It doesn't have to be big. It can be a piece of fruit but get something into you before you begin your day. You will feel better and it will help you create the habits above of eating more veggies and packing a lunch.
These habits will take practice. Commit to doing them for 1 month. Every day create something and write down your intentions to add these 11 practices into your life. You will not regret it when you do.
