A Day of Behind The Blogger

Now, this post is by no means a way of saying, “look how busy I am. If I can do it so can you.” This post is meant to be a way for you to see how much having a plan can help you.

Having a plan with your daily schedule.


It all comes down to knowing what you need to do on a daily basis in order to be the most effective. This doesn’t mean that you need to have a list of 5,000 to-dos. Because let’s face it, we all have LONG to-do lists. It means that you need to be strategic in how you plan your day.


I am a busy mom of 3. I have learned throughout the years that if I don’t have a plan, then I feel like I am running around all day without a purpose. Having no plan means chaos in my home. Having no plan means chaos in my business. Having no plan means that I am accomplishing little to nothing because my head is just out of the game.

Giving you a peek into how I schedule my day will hopefully help to give you some tips on how to schedule yours.


What and how I do my daily schedule will differ from yours. We will all have a different way that we deal with the stresses in our life. I also must add, my day doesn’t always go smoothly. Things pop up. Things happen that I don’t have control over. I have children who have grumpy days (like all of us) and need me more.


I recommend before going to bed every night that you create a top 3 to-do list for the next day. I keep 2 lists. 1 for my home and 1 for my business. Of course, that doesn’t mean I ONLY need to accomplish those 3 things. It means that those are the most important things for me to do.


For example, my list for today is…..


HOME BUSINESS

1| Put laundry away. 1| Publish blog post

2| Vacuum the entire house. 2| Create Pinterest pins.

3| Post jackets on Varagesale. 3| Create freebie.


Now I have SO MUCH MORE to do than this today but this gives me the most important pieces that I need to accomplish today. I have them written in my phone using the app, Tasks. Having a small to-do list keeps me more focused during my day and helps me to feel less overwhelmed with all the things that need to get done.


I am sure you are waiting to see what my daily schedule is like. Here is how I break down my day. I try to stick to this schedule as much as I can but like I said above, it doesn’t always work.


BEHIND THE SCENES OF SAMANTHA LAYCOCK BLOGGING


5:45-7:00 A.M: I get out of bed. Let’s face it, I try for 5:45 but damn I am NOT a morning person so I just lay there. If I get up before 7, I give myself work time in my office.


7:00-8:30 A.M: I get the kids out of bed, make breakfast, pack lunches, and just hang out.


8:30-9:30 A.M: Izzy and I walk Annie to school and back home. If the weather is nice, we will stop at the park on the way home.



9:30-10:30 A.M: School time for Iliza. We do calendar, days of the week and weather. We then focus on what the theme is for the week. So this week we are covering the Letter A and #s 1-10. She is working on writing words that start with the letter A, her first name, and just the letter A.



10:30-12:30 P.M: Work time for me. I normally will go live in my FB group during this time and do the other things needed. I have clients at this time as well on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.


12:30-1:00 P.M: Lunch with Izzy.


1:00-2:00 P.M: Clean up the house, baking time (if we bake that day), playing a game. This time is for Izzy and me to have fun. We will also spend about 30 minutes reading books if we aren't baking.


2:00-3:00 P.M: This is a quiet time for Izzy. She can choose to watch tv, play on her tablet or play on video games. I use this time to work on social media and to do any other work that I need to do.


3:15-4:15 P.M: Izzy and I walk to pick Annie up from school and walk home again.


4:15-6:00 P.M: We talk about how our days went, lunches are unpacked, dinner is made, dinner is cleaned up as well as the kitchen.


6:00-8:00 P.M: Wind down time. The kids have showers or baths. They can read or watch tv with Izzy. Brushing of teeth and bedtime stories.


8:00-10:00 P.M: This is more work time for me. I sometimes have coaching calls at this time as well. Izzy gets put into bed for 8 pm and my other 2 children go to bed at 8:30 & 9. I still tuck my middle one in but the oldest goes to bed by himself. I love this part of my workday the best because the house is quiet except for my husband who is playing video games.



My Friday schedule is a bit different because the 2 older kids are home early from school which means I can dedicate a solid 2-3 hours in for work without being disrupted. They normally play video games together so that I can get work done.


I have about 6 hours per day that I spend working on my business. By knowing what needs to get done, I can focus on the tasks that I need to.


During the weekend when Richard is home, I try to spend a good 4 hours per day getting work done. This gives me a chance to take client calls, get my email newsletters done and work on creating content for my clients and for myself.


Finding time to work from home can be difficult but it is possible. How much time do you give yourself to work on your business?
